Jury Finds Navarro Guilty On Two Counts

Peter Navarro, Former Trump Adviser, Convicted of Contempt of Congress

Jury Finds Navarro Guilty on Two Counts

Facing Up to One Year in Prison

In a verdict that could have major implications for former President Donald Trump and his allies, Peter Navarro, a former top White House trade adviser, was convicted on Thursday of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress. The jury found that Navarro had willfully ignored a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Navarro faces up to one year in prison for each count. He is the first person to be convicted of criminal contempt of Congress in connection with the January 6 investigation, and his conviction could set a precedent for other Trump associates who have refused to cooperate with the committee.

The jury reached its verdict after a four-day trial in which prosecutors presented evidence that Navarro had been repeatedly warned that he could face charges if he did not comply with the subpoena. They also played recordings of Navarro making public statements in which he vowed to defy the committee.
